Awards In Europe

The European Association of Animation Film award Cartoon d’Or 2009 has gone to the Irish director David O’Reilly for his short film “Please Say Something”. The film also won the Golden Bear in the Best Short Film category in Berlin earlier this year. Luke Snellin won the Virgin Media Shorts 2009 award for his film “Mixtape”, competing against 2000 other titles. Snellin will receive £30,000 in funding for his next project.

Rome International Film Festival

This year 10 of 14 titles in the official selection for films being shown at the Rome International Film Festival are from Europe, meaning that it is entirely dominating the festival. The director personally viewed over 800 different films before deciding on the line up, and focused her choices largely on films centering on women. Meryl Streep will be the matron of the closing night, while the opening night will be hosted by Margherita Buy.

German Theatrical Funding

€112,000 has just been allocated towards the release of theatrical productions of German films around the world. The German Films Distribution support made the decision during its third sitting this year, on the 23rd of September, to provide funds for 15 international theatrical campaigns for 11 different German films, totaling €112,000. The Distribution Support funding organization was established in 2005 and also provides grants of up to €10,000.
